System L Stainless Steel Balustrade Kit

 

The Lag Screw Swage Stud Slimline Balustrade System (System L) is a low cost and simple stainless wire balustrade kit. The stainless steel fittings can be pre-swaged to the wires in our factory or you can hire one of our easy to use hydraulic swaging tools and swage the lag screws onto the stainless balustrade wire yourself. System L stainless steel balustrade is only suitable for timber anchor posts. Tensioning is achieved using a Lag Screw Spanner to turn the left and right hand threaded lag screws into the timber anchor posts.

How to install stainless wire balustrade kits

Installing our Lag Screw Swage Stud Slimline Balustrade System kit requires simple handyman tools such as a ruler, drill and spanner or pliers. Follow the steps in “DIY Stainless Wire Balustrading the AAA way” or our System L Stainless Wire Balustrading instructional video.

We recommend using 3.2mm 1 x 19 stainless steel wire rope which is the smoothest and strongest wire for stainless wire balustrading.

The hydraulically swaged balustrade wires can be spaced 80mm apart provided the distance between the intermediate posts is no greater than 1200mm.

Do not bend the wire around corners. Bending can damage the stainless balustrade wire, put excessive stress on the anchor posts and make it difficult to tension.

The tension of the wire can be checked by hanging a full 2lt milk container on the wire balustrade in the mid-point between the posts, and measuring the deflection. If the stainles balustrade wire deflects more than is allowed by the BCA Guidelines then it will need to be tensioned further. Be careful not to over tension the wires because this will put excessive strain on your anchor posts.

Drill a 5mm hole to screw the stainless lag eye screws into timber anchor posts and a 7.5mm hole to allow the swage stud to pass through the intermediate posts. If nylon grommets are to be inserted into intermediate posts a 9.0mm hole is required.

Lag Swage Spanner

Pre-cut the threads for the stainless wood screws by using LHT and RHT lag eye screws.

Tension the wires using a lag screw spanner.
