System K Stainless Balustrade Kit

The Rigging Screw and Fork Terminal Slimline Balustrade System (System K) is our most popular balustrade kit for trades persons and DIY.  The stainless steel fittings can be pre-swaged to the wires in our factory or you can hire one of our easy to use hydraulic swaging tools and swage them yourself.  Our System K wire balustrade kit can be used for timber, steel or masonry anchor posts.

How to install System K stainless steel balustrade wires

The Rigging Screw and Fork Terminal Slimline Balustrade System is easy to install. All you need is a ruler, drill, drill bit and screwdriver.  Follow the steps in “DIY Stainless Wire Balustrading the AAA Way” or our System K Stainless Wire Balustrading instructional video.

To install hydraulically swaged wire balustrade kits we recommend 3.2mm 1 x 19 stainless steel wire rope which is the smoothest and strongest wire for stainless steel balustrading.

These hydraulically swaged balustrade wires are suitable for runs up to 10 metres. For longer runs you can swage a turnbuckle to each of the stainless wire rope.

The stainless steel balustrade wires can be spaced 80mm apart and comply with the BCA Guidelines provided the distance between the intermediate posts is no greater than 1200mm.

Do not bend wire around corners.  It can damage the stainless balustrade wire, put excessive stress on the anchor posts and make it difficult to tension the turnbuckle.

The tension of the stainless wire rope can be checked by hanging a full 2lt milk container on the wire in the mid-point between the posts and measuring the deflection.  If the balustrade wire deflects more than is allowed by the BCA Guidelines then the turnbuckle will need to be tightened further.  Be careful not to over tighten the wires because this will put excessive strain on your anchor posts.

When installing the stainless balustrade kit into timber, drill a 5mm hole and screw the stainless lag eye screws into the timber anchor posts and a 7.5mm hole to allow the swage stud to pass through the intermediate posts.  If nylon grommets are to be inserted into intermediate posts a 9.0mm hole is required.

If using steel posts we suggest you use a stainless eye bolt (lifting eye) with a blind nut rivet as the anchor point.

If using masonry posts we suggest you use an 8mm Stainless Drop in Anchor (or similar) with a minimum length of 50mm and screw in a 6mm Stainless Eye Bolt for the anchor point.

Stainless balustrade supplies are available from AAA Metal Suppliers' Sydney showroom and factory in Wollongong.
